CBD
We know CBD can be confusing, and you might have questions. Don’t worry, we have answers.
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a plant-based cannabinoid (a natural compound) made by the hemp plant.
CBD interacts with our endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help promote balance and overall wellness. Here’s how plant-based cannabinoids may help:
Regulating Stress Response
Reducing Inflammation
Uplifting Mood and Mindset
Reducing Chronic Pain
Enhancing Learning and Memory
Healthy Sleep
Appetite and Digestion
Metabolism
Cardiovascular System Function
Muscle Formation
Reproductive System Function
Skin and Nerve Function
So how does CBD work?
Your Endocannabinoid System kicks in when your body is out of balance, such as when you experience:
Anxiety or Stress
Inflammation or Injury
Weakened Immune System
In response, your body creates endocannabinoids like anandamide (the “bliss molecule”) and 2-AG. These endocannabinoids activate CB1 and CB2 receptors in your body, helping to restore balance, known as homeostasis.
However, endocannabinoids are fragile and break down quickly. This is where plant-based cannabinoids like CBD come in—they help keep these endocannabinoids in your system longer by blocking receptors, allowing for longer-lasting benefits.
The two most well known endocannabinoids are anandamide, also known as the bliss molecule, and AG-2. These endocannabinoids activate the cannabinoid receptors CB1 + CB2.
When the receptors are activated, the ECS begins the process of stabilizing your systems imbalances by turning up some reactions, but turning down others.
It's a carefully synchronized balancing act all to get our bodies, minds and mindsets in balance. When this is achieved, we are in homeostasis.
The problem is that our endocannabinoids are fragile.
They are not stored anywhere in the body, and they don't stay in our systems for very long.
They are broken down very quickly.
That's where plant-based cannabinoids (CBD) come in. Plant-based cannabinoids are a natural way to keep endocannabinoids in your system longer and stop them from being broken down so quickly.
Plant-based cannabinoids are almost identical to our endocannabinoids.
But plant-based cannabinoids (CBD) don't fit into the CB1 and CB2 receptors like our endocannabinoids do. Instead, plant-based cannabinoids (CBD) cause chemical changes by blocking cannabinoid receptors in the body, preventing other cannabinoids or chemical messengers from binding to them.
Plant-based cannabinoids (CBD) work by naturally keeping our own endocannabinoids in our system longer.
The longer anandamide and 2-AG are in our system, the more wellness benefits we achieve.
I hope you find plant-based cannabinoids (CBD) as amazing as we do.
